When i save a document to cd or disk it saves it as read only. Is there any
way i can save these so i can go and edit them at a later date?

No. To make changes you need to put them on your hard drive anyway so you
can change the attributes at that time if need be.

(I've never had a file go Read Only but so many people do. Obviously
whatever you're doing, it's different than what I do. Think I'll just stick
to my way. Makes my life easier.)

Save to 'disk'? Never ever read from, write to, or print from floppy with
Word. These are the most certain methods of ensuring document corruption.
Copy to/from the hard disc and work on the document from there.
This is equally relevant to other removable media such as CDRW.
Note that CD is a read only medium and so all files stored there will be
read only - unless you have one of those dreadful 'big floppy' software
solutions.
