Saving documents

When you use an Office app 'normally' and close it via the X button, a
pop-up asks whether you want to save the current document.

Like it or not, this is how most people I work with - inc. me! - save
files they are working on.

On TS, clicking X simply closes the session, leaving the file open. I
have two issues with this :

1) the file is not saved, so new documents are left sat in the TS
session with us hoping we don't have tp close their
session/reboot/etc.

2) the file is locked to anyone else using it.

I appreciate I can set the user's policy to save their work
frequently, but this doesn't resolve either of the above points
satisfactorily.

I'm new to TS, so maybe I'm missing something here - can you help?

Cheers

Rob

I would say that user education is your best option here.
What users do when they click on the X in the session window is to
disconnect their session. It remains on the server, with all their
programs still running. Users actually get a warning about this,
so it shouldn't be impossible to learn them to understand what
they are doing and why they should save their work, close Word,
and logoff from the session instead.

There is no native way to make this behaviour impossible. There is
however a 3th party utility that removes the X from the window. I
haven't tried it myself, but maybe you want to have a look at it:

Thanks for the reply.

I'm not getting the warning message come up though - is that configurable?

No, not that I know off. Strange. Maybe it's a Citrix feature
(although I can hardly imagine that). Will check tomorrow at work.

Have checked on a vanilla Windows TS.
When you close the rdp session window by clicking on the X in the
upper right corner, you get a warning saying:
"This will disconnect your Windows session. Your programs will
continue to run while you are disconnected. You can reconnect to
this session later by logging on again."

Do you mean that you don't see this message?
