You don't! Word is kind of unstable with removable media.
Save the document to your hard disk as usual;
Close Word;
Open the Windows Explorer or the open "My Computer" from the desktop;
Find your file;
Right click on it;
select "Send to...";
select Floppy 3½ (A.
If that is to difficult for you (I mean using Windows Explorer or My
Computer), save to the hard disk first from Word,
Then from the File menu select Save as...;
In the "Save in" dropdown list, (top left of the dialog), select Floppy 3½
(A.
But the first method is safer.

Your second method, while ensuring that you have a working copy is still
saving directly to the floppy. That second save makes the A drive the
working folder, and it is the lack of capacity on the A drive to create the
working temp files that is the major problem.
The simple answer is don't save from Word to floppy!
