Saving back to DV tape DISASTER

I cannot get any length of DV-AVI captured video (or WMV for that matter)
back to my DV camera. The Save Movie Wizard gets half-way and when the
recording process begins a "CHECK DV-INPUT" message appears on the LCD of my
Panasonic PV-DV900. Then the footage is seen on my camera for roughly a
second and then everything crashes leaving me a "could not complete, camera
was turned off or disconnected" message in the Wizard. I am using an iLink
cable hooked up to an IEEE 1394 port. The connection seems fine. It
captures flawlessly and I have tried every configuration of re-connection in
the saving process back to the camera. I have searched through all of the
Movie Maker help topics and have eliminated all of them to my knowledge. I
have recorded back to this camcorder before but with another program on a
different computer. My camcorder manual covers the CHECK DV-INPUT message
brilliantly by asserting that I should "check the connections." Does anyone
have any suggestions or theories on which part of the process could be going
wrong? THANK YOU!!!!!
