Saving as Read Only?

Is there a way to save a Excel File as Read Only. I renamed the fil
then selected the file in windows explorer and checked the box labele
read only. But when I re-open the file it isn't read only. What am
doing wrong? or Can this be done

When saving select 'Tools' from the 'save as' dialog, select general options
and from the protection dialog, select 'read only recommended
