saving a movie to cd

during the process of "saving to cd", for some reason movie maker only goes
so far... it looks like it's doing the job but after a few minutes it seems
to get stuck. it manages to get through to "58%" and then stays there. when
i select "cancel" it tells me that it's not through saving the movie. i've
cancelled and retried but always get stuck at that "58%" point.
any suggestions:

Try to find this point in your movie on the timeline in movie maker to see
if there is a problem there.
Does it save to hard disc as a avi or wmv?
If so, reimport this file into MM and try saving to cd again.
