Running Word 2000 on XP Home. A friend saved a 23 page
Word document and when she opened it up the next day it
was blank. Is there a way to recover the file?

Any help would be appreciated. You can also email me at

Thanks,

Hi, i'm not an MVP or anything, but as far as I know, unless she does regular backups and just happened to back up last night, no you can't recover

A couple of things to try before you declare all is lost though. I work tech support and a couple of people here had done this

1. Make sure she didn't accidently set her font color to white. Sounds goofy I know, but it happened here more than once.
2. Uninstall and reinstall your printer. Word pulls stuff from your printers fonts and sometimes when your printer drivers get corrupted or if something whacky gets set as your default printer your document appears blank. You can test this one by simply opening another document. If you can see it, it's not anything to do with your printer

Good luck.
