Hi all I am having a problem with saving or copying files to a usb device. I
can copy files from the device but cannot write to or copying to the device.
I am using Vista business 32 bit on an Compaq nc6400

I get the normal you need administrator permissions mesage but how do I get
by this I am the admin user I am bouncing of the walls with frustration at
the problem.

All I can find is how to block devices but nothing about actually letting
some one use them......

Cheers

You may need to take ownership if the files as follows:

Right click the file, select properties, go to the Security tab, click
advanced, go to the Owner tab, click Edit, select the User Account...then,
click ok on the screens to exit and close.

Michael,

Tried that on the files in My documents it not work and as the usb is
formatted to FAT32 there is no security tab. All I seem to get is you are
going to need permissions to copy files and then access denied. I tried
opening the file in the applications and saving to the usb and I just get
keep getting access denied.

Frustrating ...

Try formatting it in FAT.

While I don't like to offer this as a solution or workaround, there's not
much point in your jumping through such hoops to for what should otherwise
be a simple task on a personal computer in what I assume is your home
environment. Try temporarily turning off UAC, User Account Control. Open
Control Panel and select User Accounts. Then, click "Turn User Account
Control" on or off and then temporarily turn it off while you are performing
this task and see if that resolves the issue. You can turn UAC back on once
you've finished performing this task if you wish.

HI Michael,

I will certainly try that unfortunatley it is a work environment and it is
also driving my MD nuts too! (Thanks to Sony for only providing new laptops
with Vista)!!
Which is why I am on here trying for a fix.

I have an USB device in FAT32 and a SD card in FAT and I get the same
results trying to save or copying any thing onto either.

Well I turned of UAC and nothing changed. I simply cannot get anything to
save on the USB, all I get is "you need permissions to copy to this drive and
"then access denied". I will try again when I am back on network an see if
that make any difference?

I also faced the same problem. I don't know what to do. I've tried call the
Microsft Support Centre but no answer after 3 trials. It's really annoying.

Now, I save my works in hardisk and then transfer to my USB drive. For me,
WinXP is better (We don't have to do the same work twice).

Help me!!!
