save/print makes document change

Working on a normal word document.
Go to save or print and the whole document goes as if the character
spacing is set to 0. Characters of each paragraph are
displayed/printed on top of each other at the left hand margin.

Sometimes it is not all the text on a page. Only the text that hasn't
had any style changes isn’t messed up.

The following things return the document to normal;
-changing font
-export rtf
-setting character spacing to 99% (100% dosn't work)

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

PS Office 2000 / Windows XP / Lexmark printer

This sounds as though your printer driver is corrupt or out of date. Try
seeing if there is a new driver available at the manufacturer's support
site. Delete your current printer and then reinstall it.
