save password setting not retained in outlook

has anybody worked through article 290684 that addresses this problem? I have
found difficulties and inconsistencies with it.

the advice seems to be for Outlook 2002 not 2003.

The resolution for windows XP seeks file 'regedit32' which can't be found

One of my user sub-keys can't be deleted due to an 'error'.

The problem of a password not being saved is preventing me from using
Outlook and yet the advice doesn't seem to resolve the problem.

Has anyone any more specific advice and solutions from their experience?

No, it applies to both Outllook 2002 and 2003. (look in the "applies to.."
section at the bottom).

It's regedit, or regedt32....there's a typo in the KB article, it seems!

Like many others who have been having this problem, I have tried KB290684
without success. One odd thing I noticed is that my password was retained
after deleting the PSSP key. I am also having issues with Outlook not
always completely exiting. I am not running WinFax, though I am running
HotSync. The problem, however, is intermitent, and does not *appear* to
have any relation to whether I have just synched or not (or if my Palm's in
the cradle). It doesn't always happen, but when it does I will sometimes
find hours later (the next morning, for example) that a reminder's popped
up. I have tried a repair install, but to no avail. Could this be somehow
related to BCM?

Both problems are relatively easy to work around, and both problems do not
keep me from using Outlook. But the lack of any apparent cause and the
inability to know when they're going to come up can get very frustrating.
Does anyone have any clues as to what combination of items may be causing
these problems?

Okay...I'm holding my breath and crossing all my fingers & toes, but I
*think* I may have found at least a kludge. I have Outlook checking five
accounts, though three are 'related' (disposable Yahoo emails) to my main
account. The only address that pops up saying "Enter Network Password" was
my main address. I checked - it had server time out set to one minute, so I
bumped it up (and the other 2 related accounts) to between 3 and 4 minutes -
and, at least for the moment, so far so good. I alternated all the other
accounts so they are each a bit different. If that solves it....well, gee
whiz Batman!

With multiple accounts, it is never a good idea to set the polling interval
at less than 10 minutes since the accounts will often step on each other
when polling and you have a large email in one or more accounts.

Post all replies to the group to keep the discussion intact. Due to
the (insert latest virus name here) virus, all mail sent to my personal
account will be deleted without reading.

After furious head scratching, Mike asked:
