Save embedded PPT chart to Excel

I need to un-embed a chart from a powerpoint presentation that someone else
made and save the chart and the corresponding data to an Excel file. Is this
possible?

If it's an embedded Excel chart, yes:

If it's an MSGraph chart, I don't think there's a way to save it as an
independent file.
 
Thanks - that worked.

Note: In Office 2003, there is an extra step - Right Click the chart, choose
"Chart Object", then choose "Open"
