SATA problem then BIOS update then nothing!

As some of you will know, I've been having problems with the new SATA hard
disk.

So I tried to upgrade the BIOS of my Asus K8 SE Deluxe motherboard. I used
the flash update tool and everything appeared to work perfectly - but now my
PC doesn't work at all.

It resets either during boot or at login or shortly after boot. This happens
constantly. Safe mode is the only cure.

I solved my SATA problem by reverting to my old IDE drive and this
invariably gave me a stable machine - until I did this BIOS update. Now no
mater which drive I try to use (SATA or IDE) I get constant resets. I tried
removing all mention of RAID/SATA/Promise from Control Panel but the problem
persists.

I can't even restore the BIOS to its old settings (I saved an image before
updating it) since the PC resets before I have time to do this.

Now I have an unusable PC.

Help!

ASUS sometimes offers the ability to download older versions of BIOS
flashes. These can be run from a DOS floppy with nothing on it except the
minimal files to boot the PC. The ASUS support website wll supply details.
While this method is not as convenient as flashing from within windows, it
is very reliable, and does not require any version of windows operational.

1. Keep to the original thread. Spreading acrros multiple threads is
confusing and needless.

2. You didn't need to update the BIOS revision level, you said the SATA
drive was recognized in the BIOS. It was completely unnecessary and now
you know why some of us repeatedly recommend to not update a BIOS unless
absolutely necessary.

3. As was pointed out before by others in your original thread it is
likely a driver issue. No offence intended, but if you don't know the
difference between a BIOS update and a driver update then you shouldn't
be working on your computer. I suggest you take it to a qualified
technician to sort out.

See my other post on the serial ata. With this mobo, you need to go to
http://www.viaarena.com/default.aspx?PageID=2 and get their drivers
for the controller, NOT what is on the original Asus disk...

Thanks Neil - but even the repair install doesn't work.

I now think that there's something wrong with my BIOS and I plan to try to
reload the original BIOS.
