Sata on A7n8xDL (V2.0)

B

Brian Ward

Currently have a 60gb HD on ide1 primary partitioned as 'C' (System files)
and 'D' (Apps and data) and a 13gb on ide1 secondary for compressed backups
of 'C' and 'D'

Have now purchased 2 x Maxtor 120gb Sata drives and am trying to install
these in Raid0 config. copy the 'C' and 'D' partitions, remove the original
HD and boot from Sata. I can't contemplate a new reinstall !

Started off by updating bios to 1007 - worked ok

Enabled the Sata headers as per 2.7 of manual.

Installed SataRaid Utility 10019 and driver 10032 - both downloaded from Sil
Image site. Driver confirmed as working ok in Device Manager.

Installed the 2 Sata drives.

Booted up and set up Raid0 config.

Using Partition Magic partitioned ( 2 partitions) and formatted the Raid0
drive.

Using Drive Image copied 'C' and 'D' partitions across to the 2 partitions
on the Raid0 drive.

Disconnected the original Pata drive

Set Bios to boot from Scsi.

System completed power-on self test.
System now booting from operating system
MS Windows Home Edition screen shown.
MS Windows xp blue screen
THEN HANGS

What am I doing wrong - have I missed something. ITS DRIVING ME NUTS.

TIA

Drive letters may not be what you or XP are expecting. (i.e., your RAID
partition might not be C)

If your RAID partition is C, then you could try a repair install.

Thanks Ben for your prompt response and for pointing me in the right direction.

I had a feeling the problem was drive letter related. The partitions on the
Raid0 drive were given the next letters after those allocated to the
original Ide drives. I had tried to change these under Windows but couldn't
but have now suceeded with PartitionMagic.
