If I was to replace my IDE HDD with a Serial ATA HDD connected to a PCI card
will I have any problems in the future formatting and reinstalling XP? will
XP pick it up as a HDD?

Hi you will have no problems, all you need to do is copy
the drivers for your serial ATA controller to a floppy
disk. When XP setup starts it says "press F6 if you want
to specify additional scsi/raid controllers" so you press
f6 put in the floppy disk you made and install as normal.

You can either get the drivers off of the cdrm that came
with your motherboard or from the manufacturers website.

It will be a PCI SATA card so the drivers that came with that will do?
Can I also use the original IDE drive as a backup?
