SATA HD Connection - please help

I wonder if you can help me. I have just got a new Desktop PC. I have
removed the 2 internal HD's from my old desktop PC as there is data on them
I want to retrieve.

I have got a SATA to USB adapter (which will allow me to connect to the HD's
without them being installed inside my new PC) which I am trying to get to
work.
I have connected it all up and when I turn it on Win XP Pro recognises it
and installs the drivers automatically.

When I go to Device Manager and expand the 'Disk Drives' section it lists
the drive connected to the SATA to USB adapter as 'USB Device'.

My normal HD is listed as being in 'Location 0 (0)'. The USB Device (the HD
connected to my SATA to USB adapter) is listed as being in 'Location 0'. I
do not know if this is relevant but I have added it just in case.

As you can tell Windows recognises the HD in the SATA to USB adapter.
However, when I go to My Computer there is no extra drive listed so I cannot
access the HD or get to the data on it.

How can I access the HD that is connected to the SATA to USB adapter?

Has anyone else tried this?

Has anyone got any idea's how I can solve this problem?

I hope you can help me.

Any help or information will be gratefully received.

Thanks!

Right click My Computer and go to Manage.

In Disk Management at the lower part where it says Disk 0, Disk 1, etc. Make
sure that it says Online. Ages ago when Iwas using Win2000 I remember
having to right click a new disk in that place and make it Online. I have
never needed to do that since, but it is worth checking what it says there.

I managed to access my old data by simply plugging into a 'caddy' (holder
with interface, AUD$30) which connected to a USB port (the caddy did draw
some power). Then I could see the files under My computer, drive E it was in
my case, and my flash stick became drive F where it had been drive E.

Hey
How many partiotion u have on ur HD ? If u have 1 partition its called C (in
"my computer" ) and next drive should be CD/DVD-ROM which is called "D". If
you heave more then 2 partition or more than 1 CD/DVD-ROM try change you
CD/DVD letter in control panel (use "x" or "z") then connect your USB HD.

ps.
Sorry for my english but it isnt my primary language :)

From reading your description, since all the drivers are properly
loaded, it sounds like the HD is not secured to the adapter. Also, Does
the drive have power?
