SATA dvd drive doesn't work on some motherboard?

I bought a pioneer dvr 212D and put it in a pc using the p5pe-vm motherboard
(sata 1.5 Gbps). I tested two burns one with dvd-rw at 4x and another with
dvd-r at 12x they both ended in burn error in the middle of burning. There
is a SATA hard drive on this PC and it works fine.

I then put the drive into a different PC (compaq sr1520nx) and it burns fine
even at 4x, 8x, and 12X. Not sure what speed the SATA controller is on this
mobo (salmon k8s-la).

Does anyone know what may be going on? The spec for the dvd drive says
transfer rate is 1.5Gbps. Do dvd drives have more finicky SATA interface
than hard drives?

Maybe different versions of SATA drivers.Could be different burner programs.
Or even the bios in the motherboard.
