hi,
I have Seagate barracuda 7200.10 320gb HD and want to do clean install of
win xp
I was searching the web for sata driver including my mb website asus
p4s800d-x
nothing!
any suggestions where can I find the driver for my sata (controller)
I am running vista right now - so maybe I can find the driver somewhere in
the system folder? just a thought - I am lost (and tired)

My new motherboard had an install CD that directed me to provide a blank
floppy to which the CD copied the necessary files for the onboard SATA and
onboard eSATA drivers, which I then used during the clean install. Nothing
similar from your motherboard manufacturer?

just USB 2.0 driver
there must be a way to extract sata driver from my current C: HD with vista
on it or from win vista CD
but I do not know the exact location

I'd ask tech support at the motherboard web site.

yes, they do not describe how to do clean install with win xp - single new
HD
and there is no driver download option
they send you to MB website - I sent them an email - waiting for response

I should tell you, Seagate makes SATA hard drives. They are not responsible
for the SATA controller chips found on the motherboard.

You do not need the SATA drivers to install Windows XP unless you are
running AHCI mode. I would check the CD-ROM, but you would have to know
what you were looking for and you haven't even provided what motherboard you
are using except that it is made by ASUS.

ASUS p4s800d-x
I have found drivers for SATA controller on ASUS website
made a floppy , pressed F6, installed drivers but when it comes to install
win xp it tells me that I do not have any disk to install my OS
I probably do something wrong

Did you change the SATA mode in BIOS to non-RAID mode?

You don't need the SATA drivers if you are not setting it up as a RAID.

P4S800D-X motherboard uses SiS chipset and it doesn't have AHCI mode, so
again you don't need SATA drivers.
