SATA controllers and hard disks support after the release of SP2

I'm in a process of building a new PC, with a SATA controller and SATA hard
disk. Before proceeding with a clean install of Windows XP with integrated
(slipstreamed) SP2, I would like to know if the SATA drivers are still
neccessary during setup of Windows.

Does Windows with SP2 slipstreamed recognize correctly SATA controllers and
SATA hard disks? Are SATA drivers still necessary after the release of SP2?

Thanks.

Yes, because the SATA drivers are supplied, (usually on a floppy disk), with
the motherboard with the SATA hardware on it.
As far as I know Mocrosoft does not support SATA.
Just out of interest, are you setting up an "array of inexpensive disks," or
are you going for the few extra megahertz (150mhz) performance above IDE's
ATA 133mhz ? I refer you to:-

....a bit more on RAID, further down the page :-

....and so on :)

I've found that one has to take advantage of the "Press F5 to stuff in your
RAID floppy" etc. where people want SATA RAID.

Any drivers needed for XP or SP1 would be needed for SP2 except where the
driver had to be updated for SP2, then you would need that during install
(or emediatly after.)

Microsoft does not make drivers for other MFG devices.
MS only includes other MFG device drivers that have been tested and
certified.

If your devices are newer than XP SP1 then the drivers will need to be
installed with a freash install of XP with SP2 or drop back to more basic
devices and then upgrade to the new devices after drivers are installed.

Hi Mitja,
I think that the problem is with variety of different sata (raid) drivers.
Maybe the best way to go is an unattended installation (Q314459).

and then include the drivers:

btw:
you can copy your winnt.sif file to your <cd:>\i386 folder, so you won't
need an extra diskette.

I just wanted to know if SATA drivers, which usually come with motherboard,
are still necessary, since the release of SP2. I have not installed Windows
on a SATA disk yet. I don't want to start a clean install and then start
searching for the drivers in the middle of the process. Let's say is just a
question of good planning.

Thanks for your help.
