new xp installation and SATA issue?

Hi,
i am about to install windows xp sp2 on my new pc.
motherboard is Asus P5Ld2-Vm (sata support), and hard disk
is WD 160Gb sata-2.
the dealer assures me that i don't have to install (F6 step) anything
regarding the sata controller driver. the pc was tested in lab (with
windows), before delivery, so maybe he's right, but on the other hand i'm
confused with a lot of forum posts and support articles, saying that
Bios recognizes the disk but windows does not, unless the driver
is installed seperately (F6) with a floppy disk.
what's true?

Part of the confusion is the actual controller hardware itself. On
many Motherboards the SATA controllers are identified to XP
as simply a standard type of ATAPI/IDE Controller. Those type
of devices do not require 3rd-Party drivers. It's add-in type of
cards (SATA, RAID) that have drive calls or functions that are
not handled via BIOS that need the drivers. My Intel 865 MB
has both traditional PATA and SATA support. When I installed
XP I didn't need any additional drivers for installation to one of
the SATA drives.

The dealer's right- No need for additional drivers. Nvidia has implemented
SATA support fantastically for their Mobos.

I've installed XP on a SATA drive. I made sure my BIOS was setup to see
the drive as the Primary Master on the 1st SATA channel.

If you are setting up a RAID configuration you'll need the RAID drivers
and will have to hit F6 to load them during the XP install.
