SATA and IDE together

I'm building a new system and will install a SATA HDD, on a new mobo.
Can I also install my old IDE drive as a slave so I can transfer files
from it before uninstalling the IDE drive.

You can't attach your IDE drive to the SATA cable, if that is what you
mean, but you can still attach your IDE drive, as long as your
motherboard has an IDE controller.

Yes, that will be no problem. Just plug it into the IDE socket on the
mobo. Don't forget to set the jumpers to slave, it'll try to boot
otherwise.

If you have the room in the case, the old drive can still make an
excellent data drive after your transfer.
 
I'm in the proccess of ugrading my system. I have the older IDE drives in
my system now. Its looking like I'm gonna have to get a new HD too. :(
<more money... ack>. I'm looking on newegg right now for an AMD socket 939
Mobo that supports IDE. I dont think there is such a thing. Guess I've
been out of the loop for too long.

sigh...
 
So what you are saying is IDE the same as PATA? If I seem confused....its
because I am.

Yeah! PATA means "paralled ATA", which is IDE :) Even if you have SATA
drives, 99% of most ppl would still need PATA/IDE for their optical drives,
right?
