Hi,

Do serial drives play well with ide drives in the
same system? I mean, if you buy a new computer
that has both interfaces on the mother board and a sata drive installed with
the os on it, can you plug an ide drive in the ide controller port and have,
in effect, a master/slave setup?

Yes, should work. The bios of my m/b allows me to switch between IDE,
SATA or other card as the boot device, so I can boot off the IDE or SATA
drive.

Mike,
I owned an ide and a Sata drive so I just put put them in a new
computer that I built. They seem to be working fine so far. I have
the IDE as my boot drive and the SATA as extra storage. I benchmarked
both of them and they seem to be very close in performance.

Have a good day,

Yes, I do this now. On my mobo I just have to enable "Combined Mode" in
the bios.

It would NOT be Master/Slave setup, but yes it would certainly work fine.
That's how mine is set up.
