Sapphire 9800 Pro versions ....

Hey,
I have a Nvidia 4400 right now and ready to upgrade. I've had many
Nvidia cards but am tempted by the 9800 PRO, the Sapphire 9800 Pro. NewEgg
has a Sapphire 9800 PRO (128 MB) it's called bulk runs at 380/680 stock and
doesn't come with the Tomb Raider game (no big loss there), the card goes
for ~ 210$. Anybody have this card and can relate their experience.
The other option is a Nvidia Gainward 5900 XT Golden Sample card for 200$
and runs at 450/780 stock ... can OC to 490/900. This 5900XT costs 200$ is
the most I really want to spend on a video card .... game player mostly.

The card works great. You can even get it a little cheaper. It was $204
last week. They often put it on a "one-day sale " every Tuesday. It does
come with an out-of-date driver card. Just go to Ati.com for the latest
when you get it. In addition, it may be close to a bigger price drop with
the new generation coming out in the next couple of months starting with the
Nvidia 6800 in June, I think. However, that's always true. You'll be happy
whether you wait or not. Good luck.

I curently own a Sapphire Radeon 9800 pro (Bulk)I bought from newegg. Cant
tell you how pleased I am with this card. I did own a nvidia 9500 Ultra for
a short time but couldn't handle the noise when starting a 3d app and I
didn't think the visual quality was the same when using AA and AF. I have
ran my 9800 pro OCed at 432\712, stock cooling and scored 6481 on 3dmark03
http://service.futuremark.com/compare?2k3=2237005
GET THE 9800!! You won't regret it. Plus Newegg is the only company I buy
from and haven't had any problems.

I was going to get the ATI 9500 Pro last year .. but I waited around for the
prices to drop .. and by the time that happened they were gone. I snoozed
and loosed .. or something like that. Almost one year later to the day ...
I'm at the same crossraods. Good to hear that you'all are happy with your
Sapphire 9800 Pro cards.

I upgraded from a Ti-4200 (clocked to 4600 speed) two months ago. I bought
the 9800Pro your referring to from Newegg. It's the best money I've ever
spent on my PC, really. To finally be able to run my games with 4xAA and
8xAF at 1024x768 and have them run fast and smooth, was a dream come true
for me. Forget the Nvidia card. Once you get the 9800Pro and see what it can
do you'll forget all about Nvidia. And $210 it's a great deal for such a
powerful card. JLC

I bought 2 of these cards, and I too followed the Nvidia chips up from a
gforce 2 to a gforce4 4200 ti. Alls I can say is..... it's worth it, no
matter what the cost, it's worth it!! There's only one way to describe
moving up to a 9800 pro..... amazement! Then again, damn, and holy shit
comes to mind too. I get 100 fps at 1152x864 in BF running DC mod, and
that's flying choppers, jets, or what ever! Occasionally it might dip to 96
fps. And there's no describing the explosions outside of saying it's like
watching CNN.

Glad to hear you went for the 9800Pro. Now come back here after you've
played around with it for awhile and let us know what you think. JLC

Now that you've done that, keep an eye out at SVC.com for the Arctic Cooler.
I bought 2 a couple of months ago for $9.99 each. They currently have a
sale on that cooler AND the BGA ramsinks for $19.99. I wish they had that
sale when I bought the cooler. I', waiting for the ramsinks to go on sale
by themsleves now.
