Sapphire 9600XT Ultimate in Asus P4P800 Deluxe?

Hi,

Anyone fitted a Sapphire 9600XT Ultimate video card - it comes with the
Zalman heatsink already attached - into an Asus P4P800 Deluxe mobo? If so,
does it fit?

Thanks,

John.

I have a Sapphire 9600 pro (not XT) Ultimate on P4P800 deluxe.
It fits on the motherboard very well.

FYI - I've been reading in the alt.comp.periphs.videocards.ati forum that
Sapphire's version of this card doesn't have the thermal sensor that allows
the driver to do the overclocking. Seems that there are a lot of upset
people who were expecting this feature since ATI has been advertising it. I
guess Sapphire tried to cut too many corners in getting their costs down...
you might want to check it out if you are considering a purchase.

Tom

Tom,

How about 9800XT ultimate? Does that one have the sensor missing too?
That is something that I was considering to get after the prices dropped.

Navid,

I checked Sapphire's website out at the URL below.

http://www.sapphiretech.com/

In the support forums, there were a lot of frustrated owners of the 9600XT
128mb and 256mb versions of this board that could not seem to get the
"overdrive tab" in the ATI CAT driver version 4.1 to work. I saw nothing
about the 9800XT version of the board mentioned - as a matter of fact, I did
not see the 9800XT version of the board mentioned anywhere in the forum,
almost like it wasn't released yet or something.

Regarding the 9600XT issue of not recognizing the thermal sensor for
overclocking, I saw several posts that Sapphire responded that they were
looking into the issue with ATI regarding the missing overdrive tab in the
4.1 release of the CAT's. Hopefully, it will be a problem quickly fixed by
either Sapphire or ATI.

You can go and see for yourself and read the posts - that will give you the
best indication of what is currently going on.

Regards,
Tom

There is another thing you did not ask about but may be interested in.
My heatsink got really hot after playing a game to the point it would
burn the finger!
I did a search and found others who were concerned and replies that
said that that is what it is supposed to do and not to worry.
But, I have got a bracket (ZALMAN) that installs where the extension
cards are installed and have installed a fan on it that blows air onto the
card. Now, it does not get hot. I have placed a resistor in series with
the fan so that its RPM is lower than nominal (no noise).

A friend was telling me today that he has the 9800 Pro Ultimate and that it
too gets hot... but then I imaigne it would as that is the point of the HS

I think you are absolutely right. What is important is to move the warm
air out of the case.
Nevertheless, I felt uncomfortable having something that hot inside the
case.
