Sanitarium Game

I recently bought and installed the game Sanitarium (made by ASC Games, now apparently out of business). My os is Windows XP Home. When I try to run the game I get an error saying the sntrm.exe file has encuntered a problem and will now shut down. When I click "Don't send Report" the game closes. I tried using every os option in the compatibility wizard and have looked for patches for the game to no avail. Any ideas?
 
Just out of curiosity, have you tried this patch as well?
