SANE ADF suggestions

Thufir Hawat

I'm looking for something like:

IBM ADF - 300 dpi x 300 dpi

Media Handling
Max Document Size 8.25 in x 11.7 in
Supported Document Type Plain paper
Document Feeder Type Autoload
Feeder Capacity 10 pages

http://www.google.com/products/catalog?cid=10624333784565567446&q=scanner%
252Badf#

but USB instead of SCSI. However, it seems like the prices tend to be
quite high, I was thinking <$100 and something quite simple.

I'll need to get it working under SANE (Linux):

I did look at I.R.I.S., but they seem painfully slow, or too expensive,
and I can find no indication that they work under SANE:

Any suggestions? As I have a printer, I don't want a multi-function
device.

thanks,

I would suggest 2nd-hand. I am in Japan and usually buy devices for <100
USD on Yahoo Auctions there. Possibly you could have similar luck in
your part of the world (or international shipping would allow you more
flexibility even from other parts---for example if you want something
cheap from Japan I can look for you).

I suggest you try the CVS version, this is not updated every time there
are development changes, but when documentation is changed, still about
twice a month or so. If you download the CVS version of SANE and install
it, you can see the Changelog, and note that there are quite a few
devices added since April 2010 (last stable release). The stats at the
top of the page (compared to the stabled release link above) are a
useful summary of the differences:

Yeah, well, I have 2 multifunctions in use, one Epson, one Canon, and
plenty that come in for development of support in SANE and gutenprint. I
don't think at this point it is value-for-money to try to get an
ADF-scanner without printer/copier built in. Unless you find one
2nd-hand, that is.
