Samsung Laser Printer $ 99

I

Iconoclast

Fry's Electronics sell a Samsung Ml - 1710 laser printer for $ 99 (after
rebates).

Is this a good buy? Anyone have any experience with this printer??

The toner costs $ 65 and is advertised for 3000 pages. That would make it 2
c per page. Is that high or low for a laser printer?

Thanks

I too was thinking about getting a laser printer but my cost per page is
only like 4 cents/page. Not really worth it for my low-volume printing just
to save a couple cents. If you print a lot, I'm sure there are other
cheaper cost per page printers.

I had the first generation cheap Samsung laser printer (ML-4500) that sold
for $99 a few years ago and was very impressed. Very nice print quality and
the toner carts lasted forever. I think you can't go wrong, but now HP also
offers a < $150 laser printer that I'd also look into if considering one.

If you have a Sam's Club membership, check there first. I believe they sell
the Samsung for $99 no rebate required with a 6 month return policy.

I think you'll find the 1710 produces very sharp and high quality text which
easily surpasses the low-end HP LaserJets.

We use the Samsung lasers in our job shacks and they seem to work as
well as anything.
If you factor in the extremely low initial price, the are as
economical as they come.

For what its worth, I have never received a rebate for anything that I
have bought from Frys.
I always get a card saying that the rebate was sent after the
expiration date even if the receipt was sent the day that it was
purchased.
I recently received a rebate rejection slip from Western Digital for a
special Fry's harddrive.
Has anyone ever received a Frys rebate?
No one that I personally know ever has.
We keep sending them in as sort of an experiiment in Corporate Fraud.

Be advised, this printer comes new with a "Starter" toner cartridge that is
only good for 1000 pages or so.

Damn them for being cheap bastaads.

Gee... What do you expect for a $99 laser printer? A new toner that prints
3000 pages costs more than half the price of the printer. Anyway, I think
the Samsung's still a very good choice.

I ahve an earlier cheap Samsung (branded as Lexmark) and every time the
cartridge seems about ready to quit I take it out and give it a good
shake. It was only supposd to be good for 800 pages.

You can always search Google for the lowest price and you can compare
with eBay for better price. I don't have Samsung to know much about it
but I have owned few different laser printers and I refill my own toner.
Depending on the size/volume it costs me between $10-20 a bottle of
toner, and around 10-20 minutes playing with the black toner <g>

I ony refill once every 1-2 years so I don't have any special kit but
using air compressor, and shop-vac to clean the old toner.
