Can anyone help?

I bought an oem version of this harddrive from PC world - they told me that
Windows XP would recognise it without any problems. Almost correct - the HDD
is seen by the CMOS, but I am unable to install it or format it. Its seen in
device manager, but nowhere else.

Is this a driver problem?
I can't find any help on the Samsung site.

Thanks

Please clarify:
you can see it from Device Manager? If this means what I
think it does, then you have XP installed on the hard
drive already. I'm thinking that is not what you meant.

I would download a boot disk file from www.bootdisk.com,
preferrable the Win98 bootdisk, then boot to the floppy
and run fdisk to create partitions. If this does not
work, then you need to download diagnostics from Samsung
or call their tech support.
