samsung dvd-rom drive problems

Hello On my dell system running windows Xp Pro, my DVD
rom drive won't recognize any dvd's. the light comes on ,
on the front of the drive but than goes off, than
whatever program your trying to use to read the dvd will
lockup until you actually open the dvd drawer and remove
the dvd disc. Audio cd-r and cd-rw's work fine, as do cd-
r's with pics on them. Tried everything I can find to
solve the problem nothing worked. Someone suggested doing
something with DMA but I don't see a setting under the
dvd rom listing in device manager. Any Ideas??
Thanks

What program r u using to play
DVD's with? XP doesnt have codecs
to play DVD's. So, you'll have to install
something like PowerDVD, which will install
codecs.

I normally use intervideo windvd, but the drive isn't
even recognizing the dvd it just says insert disc, or no
disc in drive, etc. But even if I open my computer and
click on the dvd drive nothing happens than the my
computer window will lock up. at least until I actually
eject the dvd.I did some research last night on this dvd
drive and lots of people are having problems with it but
figured I would ask about it here first. thanks
