I am thinking of getting Samsung CLP-500 laser printer. Are there any

The cost of the toner in relation to the printer.

Office world are doing 20% off the toner if you buy 3, but they won't
give 20% off if you buy the 4 that you need :)

Do a search on the printer and look for the reviews?

It obviously depends on people's usage, with a purchase price now of
around £200 if you arent a heavy user it certainly seems worth
considering, especially bearing in mind it has duplex as well (or is
that a 550 version?)

The 500 has the auto duplexer.

Now looking for toner on Ebay :)

I'm happy with the output so far.

Yes. The CLP-500 is a good bang for the buck - especially for light
users like me. Only complaint so far is the smell (toner I think). But
are not all colour lasers guilty of this?

For those keen on photos obviously the CLP-500 is no match for a good
inkjet. Unlike some other lasers the output is matt as opposed to
glossy. But the Sammy can do so many other things well - like making
posters up to 16 x A4 sheets. Great for the kids' bedrooms.

Provided you watch where you buy the toner refills this printer is
well worth considering. However, I should emphasise that if you are a
heavy user, you might wish to consider something else. As a point of
interest, before buying a CLP-500, download the user manual from
Samsung and read the last chapter on 'Maintenance'. This'll maybe give
you an idea of how much you're likely to 'spend' over the life of the
printer. Things like: the imaging unit, transfer belt and waste toner
cartridge need replacing after so many pages. This could work out very
expensive for heavy users. I bet these spares are really expensive.

As for networking - the CLP-500 does not have this capability
built-in. But there is a card you can buy from Samsung to upgrade the
CLP-500. However - seems to me that a modestly-priced print server
(like the Netgear PS110) would be a much cheaper option. You can get
one of these now for about 60 quid.

The other thing I should mention - compared to a mono laser, the
CLP-500 is a big heavy beast. You might have a job finding something
suitable to sit him on. There is a solution at Office World. They do a
rather nice 'photocopier/fax stand' on wheels for around 70 quid. This
takes the CLP-500 with plenty of room to spare, and there are shelves
below for storing paper and stuff. That's what I use.

You'll also need either a parallel or USB 2.0 cable - cos the CLP-500
does not ship with any connecting wires. And be prepared to do a bit
of assembly. Before using this printer you must install:

1. the imaging unit
2. the transfer belt
3. the toner cartidges

There is very large book of instructions - but you only need to read
the first 27 pages. The rest is all in foreign languages.

Otherwise - the CLP-500 suits me just fine. I like it - so far.
Particulalry the duplex facility, usually a costly extra with many
other printers.

BTW - if you get one from a local store - although the box is big it
WILL fit well into the back of a small hatchback like the Ford KA -
with the rear seats down of course.

Hope this helps.

You don't need to replace the waste toner cartridge, just empty it and
replace it when the printer warns you that it is full.
