Same Virus every day for a Month

F

Frager

Hello to all.

I have been receiving up to seven emails with virus attachments for the last
three to four weeks.

Norton anti-virus has detected and deleted all the infected attachments.

Is it usual to receive so many viruses every day?

Or is it possible that they are coming from the infected computer of a
friend who has my address in their address book?

The return path is different in all emails. The virus is W32.Swen.A@mm

Below is what I see in the Frolm Line and the Subject line.

I would appreciate any comments.

Pat

It's Swen so it's not unusual. ;-)

Not impossible but Swen gets email addresses from many different places.

You can try to stop posting with a valid email address in newsgroups
(this will reduce the load) and you can set up filters on your incoming
mail server.

<snip stuff seen thousands of times>

Either you can't look for the many many previous post on this topic or you
have been vacationing for the last couple of months on a deserted island
somewhere that had no radio nor tv?

Aren't you happy that Norton caught the worm or you would be one of the
initially thousands now hundreds of machines infected with this?

Frederic,
Thanks for your comments. I will try a false email address. I hope it is not
too late.
Thanks.

Thanks for your reply.
I did not know what heading I should use to search for an answer to my
particular problem.
Thanks for taking the trouble to reply to my post.

In answer to the question 'am I too late' the answer is yes, while my
attempt rate has dropped dramatically, the damn thing just won't go away. I
use mailwasher so it's just become a nuisance. At one time I was getting so
many my server space (25 mb) filled up. Some people take out a free email
such as hotmail and limit visibility to friends.

Are you sure that (e-mail address removed) is not already in use by someone else
from your ISP? By using it, you're sending viruses and spam his way.

It is best to mung what is to the right of the @.
Use: (e-mail address removed)

It is clear that I have a lot to learn about email and the internet.
I posted to three newsgroups with my correct email address.
Thanks for your advice.

Thanks for your reply.
I will set up some message rules to sent the offending emails to a special
folder and then just delete all messages in that folder.

I assume YoKenny did not mean to be condescending.

PPH's response is typical of "know-it-all" teenagers that seem to know
everything but do not know how to include relevant parts of their post. Key
indicator of 'killfile' fodder.

Sorry, I was condescending but after reading hundreds of the same question I
became bored and responded as appropriate to the question.

No offense was taken at your comments.
Those of us who post questions to newsgroups are very grateful to experts
like yourself who take the time and trouble to help us solve our problems.
You might be interested to know that I have not got any infected emails
today.
Whether that is just a coincidence or is due to the fact that I changed the
email address in my News account I don't know.
Regards,
Pat
