My computer shuts down and restarts at random. I have
run Norton Anti-virus and no viruses present. This
started on August 30 2003. No new software or hardware
has been installed

Then read the response to that post. You are probably infected even though
you are running Norton Antivirus.

If your Norton is up to date, it will detect the infection. Sounds like you
do not have recent virus definitions installed. When was the last time you
updated Norton?
They release new virus definitions several times a week. If you are using a
shareware version that came with your computer and have never purchased a
subscription, then it is useless...in fact less than useless as it is taking
up HDD space and is not giving you any protection in return.
