same doc opens.

I am using Office Pro 2000. My spouse wrote a letter then saved it to the hard drive, no problem. The problem I now have is every time I open Word 2000 that same letter opens as the default page. I have to delete the letter before I can write a new letter. How do I make word open to a blank page
