Same address, but link won't work??

Ed

On my site, I have a "Home" link. On the FrontPage pages, the link does
okay. But I also have a "page" created in MS Word and saved as HTM with the
"Home" link. In the FP editor, the link works fine. When I previewed in
the browser on my home machine, it worked fine. I just uploaded everything
using FileZilla, and the link on the MS Word page doesn't go back Home, even
though it's the same address as on my FP pages. Any suggestions?

netfirms wants all lowercase filenames.

aside from that how can we find the problem...all your image links are
broken.

I've found that if I do any type web design using anything besides FP,
it's best to copy it to Notepad and then copy from there into FP. You
will lose formatting and have to do some reformatting, but it'll be
compatible. Word & Works are not web design tools.

Thanks for the reply, Rob. I just looked at it using IE 6, Win2000, and
only saw one blank spot on the main page, no graphics blanks on any other
pages.

Unfortunately, I don't have FP on this machine. The site was created at
home (where I don't have Internet access) using FP2000 with Win98SE, then
burned to a CD and uploaded from here.

Could this be a "translation" issue between other browsers and systems,
perhaps?

Ed,

I think you have two index pages.

sorry... on that second link below add: /index.htm

maybe you have two home pages, or you're publishing incorrectly to netfirm

Wow! How in the world did I do *that*?!? And how do I correct it?? Is it
possible to get it to open the index page every time, no matter how it's
spelled? (Insert sounds of flailing, drowning newbie here!)

Ed

Rob Giordano \(Crash\)

Welp...not sure how you did it, maybe you published to Netfirm incorrectly?

One way you can end up with two homepages is FP will auto-correct the
homepage name to whatever your server requires then if you persist in
working with the wrong name on your local machine you can end up with let's
say: index.html AND index.htm.

But right now only the one with the yellow background and missing image
links is available on the web, the other one is gone...so maybe you're
working with it?

Rob: Spent a long night refurbishing the site to all lower case
**everywhere**!! (I thought!!) Typed in www.wildairballoons.com and it
came up good - except the Home link on the Word HTM page didn't work (the
original complaint!). Closer inspection shows it links to "Index.htm" vice
"index.htm". So I'll try changing that and reloading it - later! Strange,
though - www.WildAirBalloons.com still throws up that no-graphics page.
Where does this ghost exist, and how do I kill it?

Thanks for all your advice.

I can't find a Word HTM page.

But...you're probably on a linux/unix server, so Index and index are two
different pages if your page is called Index.htm (I believe there's one at
the bottom of the Expect Magic page) you need to change it to index.htm.
Also, there's still lots of capital letters in the Expect Magic section file
names...did I mention you shouldn't use spaces either? Remove spaces replace
with underscores if you want.

The ExpectMagic page is the MS Word-as-HTML page. I didn't think about the
capitals there, because they all pointed to internal Word bookmarks
contained on that page (except for the "Home" links). I didn't think of
that page being treated differently once published to the web.

Well, at least I'm back down to my original issue, which I now may know how
to fix. I may just have to re-do that page in FP and get out of Word
altogether. (I used Word because it was a major text page, and while Word
is not a web page program, it is a text program - much more so than FP.)

Thanks for all your help.

YES...get outta Werd...it's messy.
Shouldn't take ya but a few minutes to redo that in FP.
