SAM database

OK... I have an end user that cannot login. At first, I thought it may have
been they just didn't remember their password...

Now I think it may have something to do with the SAM database.

When I try to login as administrator or any other account, it gives me a
error that the username or password does not match.

I have tried to load XP over the top of itself with the "repair" option, but
I get the same message trying to log in. I even tried to create a new account
when reloading and get the same message.

While trying to reload XP, I have done the "Shift" "F10" to get to the DOS
prompt, but I still can not access the NUSRMGR.CPL (graphical interface for
user account manager) it gives me an error message of "The current user
account is not recognized".

When I tried to see who I am logged in as with the "net user" command, it
gives an error of "system error 2" "the system cannot find the file
specified".

If I try and reset the administrator using the "net user" command line, it
gives me the same error: "system error 2" "the system cannot find the file
specified".

Is my last resort loading XP in a different folder?

Any help would be GREATLY appreciated...

See the article "How to recover from a corrupted registry....." in Help &
Support. If that doesn't work, you are looking at a reinstall.
