Safely Remove Hardware

The "Safely Remove Hardware" now sits in my tray (bottom right) and that's
what I click on to remove a USB device.
Question: can this icon also be placed on the desktop so that it can be seen
more easily? Is it actually a program? I cannot find it.

Nope. This tray icon is a function of "Hotplug.dll".
