Safely Remove Hardware

O

oggycompton

I have ran driveragent and all my drivers for my hardware are upto date.
However, in the system tray I have the option to safely remove hardware, the
things its allowing me are my hardd river and my DVD drive. How can I remove
this option?

oggycompton,

An abundance of people are experiencing this problem, including myself.
Nobody seems to have an answer as to why it is happening or a solution to fix
the problem.
It mysteriously appeared on my computer one day for no apparent reason.
I did nothing to cause it to happen. It is still there and it irritates the
hell out of me, even though it is now hidden and I cannot see it. It
irritates me because it should not be there and I did nothing to cause it to
be there.
I assume it is caused by some bug or glitch in one of the updates
immediately preceding the problem. But then again, I could be wrong. I
followed the posts concerning this issue until I realized nobody has a clue
as to why it is happening.
It would be a simple matter for Microsoft to solve this problem, but as
with many other issues, they don't seem to be interested or concerned. I'm
not bashing Microsoft. However, criticism justified is criticism deserved.
Microsoft should have provided a fix for this issue by now but they have not
done so. There is no excuse for this indifference. I wish I could help you
but I cannot.
Have a nice day.

This has been discussed before:
<http://groups.google.com/group/micr..._frm/thread/fb8ede4811f3e9ed/378ba9f2b3767664>

I still had no time to write a tool for this but I had time to
add this to an existing tool, my USB drive letter manager:
http://www.uwe-sieber.de/usbdlm_e.html

It's a Win32 service that gives control over drive letter assingments
(primarily of USB drives). It has all required data, so it was
easy to add the 'Hide drives from "Safely Remove Hardware"' function.

You need then a section [HideFromSafelyRemoveHardware] in the USBDLM.INI
with the device IDs of the drive to hide from "Safely Remove Hardware".
The device ID can be determined by the included ListUsbDrives too.
See USBDLM help:
http://www.uwe-sieber.de/usbdlm_help_e.htm#hs99

The tool is free for private use.
