Safely remove hardware

I have noticed that on some pc's that when you use a memory key that
you get the "Safely Remove Hardware" icon. But my question is that I
know of a few pc's including mine, that when I use a key I don't get
the icon.
All three computers are using XP Pro SP2 ( and have been updated).
It's not hidden in the tray. Two of them are 8 month old Dell OptiPlex
270's using the Dell drivers. Tried Dell memory keys and SanDisk keys.
Just kinda curious. Any suggestions?

The safely remove hardware icon is only presented in XP if it is necesary to
stop the device before it is removed.

Start at the second paragraph. If it doesnt show up in the system tray I
would not bother to use it..
