Safely remove F,G,H,I

When I turn on this Vista Home Premium and boot up, the icon appears to
safely remove usb devices f,g,h,i. There are no USB flash drives, etc
plugged in. I can click on the icon and it clears.

Anyone know what causes this.

You mean the slots for ScanMedia, etc. yes there are 4. Hmm, I never
thought about those. It is interested to note that if I don't clear the
icon, sometimes an exception error will pop up later on and I have to hit
cancel several times to get rid of it.

This is a HP Pavilion desktop pc.

my machine has the same slots, but unless there is a card in them, I don't
get that.
check the manufacturer's website for an updated driver for the media reader.
if that doesn't fix it, is it still under warranty? call the manufacturer
