I have about 500mb of files in service pack files directory under windows.
Is it safe to delete these files once I see that SP2 is running OK.

As long as the folder has "uninstall" in the name of it, then you can. But it would be unwise (as well as impossible) to delete the actual "service pack files" folder that you mention, as it is part of the OS now. The folder that can be deleted will have $ signs at the beginning and ending of the file name.

Don't delete the service pack directory. You can, however, burn it to
CD and edit the registry to point to that new location.

HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Setup
Edit the ServicePackSourcePath entry to reflect the CD drive.

The uninstall directory can be deleted or burn to a separate CD in case
you might what to uninstall later. No registry edit required there.
