service pack files

After installing the required updates from the windows update site, I've
noticed alot of extra files. They are service pack files, which of the files
are safe to delete. I ask this question becuase I use a duplicate file
finder, and most of the files that are located in the service pack files are
also located in other folders outside the service pack files. What about the
i386 folder? Can it be deleted? Thanks

I deleted a folder that was created by XP SP2.
Ever since I deleted it Windows Update has being acting weird.

Don't delete anything from Windows update or you will have problems.

You've being warned.

Typically, deleting any files, especially system files is not a good thing.
I'm pretty sure that when XP SP2 came out, I came across while reading the
install intructions that it was safe to deleted the files with the %symbol%
in them and not the $symbol$.
