I have XP home...e-machine T2482. It will not start in safe mode although I
keep pressing F8. Windows just starts normally. I wonder about this
especially since about a month ago, I used the system restore disk on this
computer, and wiped the drive clean so I assume any malware or viruses that
kept it from doing were deleted when I started over. Any ideas? Thanks.

that is odd. have you
visited the homesite for
your computer and looked
up some faqs and how to's?

in any case,
perhaps you can click
start>run>msconfig

under the boot tab there will
be a check box for safeboot
and the sub option network.

[safemode with network
allows for an internet connection]

if it works then when
you reboot, you will
get into safemode.

i suppose that while
in safemode, you would
uncheck those boxes to
return to normal mode.

Here's a utility that makes booting into Safe Mode easy. You don't have to hit
the F8 key or make changes in msconfig.

BootSafe

Good luck

From what you said you do not get a Menu to select Safe Mode from when
you press
F8 on Startup?

No I don't. It just goes to Windows like normal.

Try F5 instead, it works for me :)

To Boot to Safe Mode - go to Start\Run\Type Msconfig and hit enter. Then go
to the tab labeled Boot.INI and check the'safe boot' box and click 'apply'.
Then reboot...it will boot to safe mode without hitting F8 or any key. When
it's "all over" go back and un-check the 'safe boot' box under Msconfig to
return to normal boot.

I did, and it worked. Thank you and to all that responded.

You're welcome. And thanks for taking the time to let us know you were able to
boot into Safe Mode.
