Safe Mode

I am so confused. I'm trying to get rid of a virus and i
have to restart my computer in safe mode. I read specific
instructions on how to do this and they do not match my
system it says to select restart safe mode in teh drop
down menu under shut down. The problem is i don't have a
dropdown list let alone a safe mode option. Help please.
I'm sure this is a simple fix! Thanks!

For safe mode you quickly hit the F8 or delete key,
depending on the maker of your PC, early during the re-
boot process, then use arrow keys to select safe mode and
hit the enter key.

Assuming you running XP, g to Start, run, and type
MSCONFIG. (doesn't have to be caps) Then select
the 'Boot.ini' tab. On the lower left, check '/Safeboot'
You can boot minimal or with network drivers if you need
to access the net. Don't forget to go back and uncheck it
when you've completed what you need to do, and reboot.

Another way, is tap the F8 key while booting. It's tricky
sometimes and depends on the manufacturer...sometimes you
can use the left control to do it...the easiest is the
first stated above.
