safe and normal start differences

Still troubleshooting a unresolved problem previously posted but not
resolved.

Can anyone tell me the difference between SAFE mode startup and that which I
describe below?

Quicken is only program open. Using XPpro, 3.2 g cpu and 1gb ram. Have run
spybot,mcafee, and Adaware.

Facts:

Program works correct in safe mode. (Instantaneous display of information)
Program has problems in normal boot. (Blinking for 5-10 seconds-appears
to be collecting information. finally displays)
Used MSCONFIG to deselect startup----sys services----win.ini----sys.
Individually and all at once and problem remains.
Only hint I have is using task manager I see Explorer.exe using computer
time
while the problem is occurring. Can't see why Quicken 6 should call
explorer."

In safe mode, your screen should look crappy. Perhaps it is something with
the display settings. You might try using the compatability wizard. Change
the display settrings to 256 colors and see if the problem goes away. You
can always change it back.

Thanks but that is not the problem.
I have a difference in how a program runs between safe, normal, and modified
normal. Don't care about appearance.
