runtime or executable version problem

I have the developers version 2002 and have made a runtime version of a
database that I want to distribute. When I tested it on a computer that did
not have Access, it did not work because
"the Office System Pack cannot be installed on this system because it
requires Windows NT 4.0 Service Pack 6 or later."
The computer I was using has Windows XP and has been updated regularly.
My question is about why an XP version needs a 2000 service pack and whether
downloading the Service Pack 6a would be appropriate. Is there any way that
such a download and installation can cause a problem? This is not my
computer so I don't want to cause a problem for a friend who permitted me to
test my application on her computer.
I will appreciate advice and information.
Thanks.
