AOL and Picassa (from Google) has worked fine for several months on my XP
Pro/sp2 machine. Now I get a message "the application has requested the
runtime to terminate in an unusual way" and the programs will not open. I
have run
a registry repair (Registry Booster) and anti-virus (BeSafe) scan and no
luck. I installed Spybot but got the runtime error when I tried to run the
program. I found an article describing the problem in the MS knowledge base
and MS sent me a hotfix, but it didn't work. Any suggestions are
appreciated. Thanks!

The exact message????
If is this, read on:

Microsoft Visual C++ Runtime Library.
Runtime Error!
Program: c:\Program Files\Internet Explorer\IEXPLORE.EXE
The application has requested the Runtime to terminate it in an
unusual way.
Please contact the application's support team for more information.

Try uninstalling the Google toolbar using Control Panel-Add/Remove.

Another option:
Malware Removal:

Another option:
Another user receiving runtime errors fixed it by disabling McAfee's
Anti-Phishing filter.
