Runtime Error

I run XP Home Edition, version 2002, Service Pack 2, on a Compaq Presario
computer (ADM Athlonâ„¢XP 3200+, 2:20 GHz, 960 MB of Ram. I downloaded Trend
Micro Anti-Spyware from: http://www.trendmicro.com/en/produc...e/overview.htm.

After I tried it, I decided to use McAfee instead. I then tried to uninstall
Trend Micro, and all “you know what†broke loose. For some reason when I used
the uninstall feature, it changed a lot of my pictures to Quattro Pro 12
Notebook? Plus when I tried to go and “Restore†I found all my old settings
had been wiped out and I could only back up two days, (which didn’t correct
the problem). Plus the program never really was completely removed. Now when
I restart the computer it locks up and has to be started by using the power
button at least four times.
Then finally it pops up error box:

(Microsoft Visual C++ Runtime Library)
Runtime Error
Program:C:\ProgramFiles\TrendMicro\Tmas\Tmas.exe
This application has requested the runtime to terminate it in an unusual
way. Please contact the application’s support team for more information.

Even the tech support at Trend Micro didn’t have an answer. So I’ve run
back-up disc of what things I could save, and plan to just dump the whole
mess and put in XP Professional. But if you have a solution to this maybe I
can at least save some of my pictures.

Have you tried to remove the Google toolbar and see if this error continues? If it does not then re-install the toolbar after

First...
I would say that you need to understand what is different in XP Home and
XP Pro before moving to XP PRO. Unless you are looking for the features
offered by PRO, you are most likely better off with XP Home.

Boot your XP Home disk, or one you can borrow, and perform a "Repair".
Reboot and install all the Windows Updates.

If the CD you use does not have SP2 included, then you might need to
download SP 1 or SP 2 manually and apply. Then do Windows Update.

Can't do a repair install as I was not supplied a Windows XP setup disc,
only have recovery partition.

And yes I do understand the difference between Home and Pro. It is just that
I have acquired XP Pro disc recently was thinking about installing it even
before this last problem.

Thank you for your time and attention.
