Runtime Error: 'undefined' is null or not an object

One of the users in our company gets the following runtime error while trying
a open a folder in a document library.
===========================
A Runtime Error has occurred.
Do you wish to Debug?

Line: 859
Error: 'undefined' is null or not an object.
===========================

I am referring to the KB article 'How to Troubleshoot Script Errors in
Internet Explorer', located at
http://support.microsoft.com/default.aspx?scid=308260, in order to resolve
this issue.

Note:
When the user is logged into another machine, he no more gets the error
while performing the same action.
It was verified that Active Scripting, ActiveX and Java are not blocked
The error occurs even after the temporary Internet-related files(files,
cookies and history) were deleted.

Is there any settings on the Internet Explorer or elsewhere that I should
look in specific to resolve this issue?

Hi Con_Phi :)

Try the following and see if it helps:

Script Debugging Problem

Open IE
Tools | Advanced
Under Browings:
Disable Script Debugging - Check it
Display a notification about every script error - Uncheck it
Apply
OK

or........

On your desktop right click the Internet Explorer Icon
then:

1 Click on the advanced tab at the top
2 Scroll down to Java
3 If you have Java Sun listed---Check that box
4 Under Microsoft VM check off the 3 boxes

If these steps do not resolve your problem, please post back to this thread
with the details and any error messages.

Hope this helps

Jan :)

Hi Jan,
Thanks for responding.
I checked for the settings for 'Disable Script Debugging' and 'Display a
notification about every script error'. The check-box status for them were
Checked and Unchecked respectively, as suggested by you. But still, the error
keeps popping up.
I proceeded to your second suggestion and I have difficulty in understanding
the same.
There is no 'Java Sun' listed under the Advanced tab of Internet Options.
Hence that can be ruled out. But, 3 are listed under Microsoft VM.
In 'Under Microsoft VM check off the 3 boxes', what do you mean by 'Check
Off'? Is that Check or Uncheck?!

Thanks again :)

You can download and install the Sun Java here, then it should be listed:

Sun Java, which is the same as the Java

Just check the box for the JIT compiler for the virtual machine enabled
....(etc.)

What version of Windows and IE are you running?

Have you checked to be sure that there is nothing in your AV, popup locker
or Firewall that might be blocking the action?

Jan :)

It's a JavaScript error, not Java. The two are not related.

Go to Tools | Internet Options | Advanced.
Check the box to Disable script debugging.
Uncheck the box to Display a notification about every script error.
