Runtime Error! -Pure Virtual Function Call

When i try to start MSN messenger (and yahoo) i get the following alert:

Runtime Error!
Program:C\ProgramFiles\MSNMessenger\MSNMsgr.Exe
R6025
-Pure Virtual Function Call

I have no idea what this is or how to fix the problem, and up until today
everything had been working fine.
Any help would be appreciated.
Many thanks

I am encountering a very similar problem lately even without starting Windows
Messenger and have been trying to get rid of the continous alert messages
popping up all over the desktop stopping current activity. Is there any
solution to the problem. Will someone who has resolved this successfully,
kindly let me know how i should proceed step by step to stop this annoying
problem? In the first place I do not know how this started suddenly. To stop
this I have also downloaded from Microsoft website Windows Live Messenger in
addition to the existing Windows Messenger program. Can the problem go if I
delete the 'Messenger' folder from C: drive in Program Files? I am seeking
help desparately. Thanks.
