Runtime Error - Can't log into the internet w/IE6

When I try to log into internet I keep receiving an error. I use IE6. After
double clicking on IE I get the following error msg:

Heading: Microsoft Visual C++ Runtime Library
Msg:
Runtime Error!
Program: C\Program Files\Internet Explorer\iexplore.exe
This application has requested the Runtime to terminate it in an unusual way.
Please contact the application support team for more information.

Tried using system restore. Works only once, after I double click on IE I
can log into the internet, but after that I can't log in again I keep getting
the same error msg and won't allow me to log in.

Thanks for any help!

Lately this has mostly been caused by the Google toolbar. Uninstall it.

If that doesn't fix it:
Runtime Library Microsoft Visual C++, Runtime Error Program
C:\Windows\Explorer.exe or Iexplore.exe, abnormal program termination.

or
http://www.trendmicro.com/vinfo/virusencyclo/default5.asp?VName=TROJ_AGENT.BK
also make sure you don't have both the Sun JRE and the Microsoft VM JIT
compiler enabled.

***excellent Danny, fixed it right away !
can either you or Frank say why google has
"recently" started causing this ?
and what if the toolbar is re-installed ?

***is there a place in XP where the MS "search" button
can be told to go straight to google instead of MS.com ?
(then we wouldnt need google toolbar)
thanks guys. kamanism_at_ntlworld.com

No, I don't why this just started. I discovered this problem yesterday,
while troubleshooting a friend's PC.
