At startup, I get an error message on my desktop
that reads "Runtime error 5 at 00405367". I click on OK
and go on, but it happens everytime I turn on my computer.
I am running Windows XP Home Edition on an e-machines pc.
Thanks for your suggestions.
Some program that is starting with Windows is crashing. Go to Start>Run
and type "msconfig" without the quotes. Now look on the Startup tab.
Unfortunately, we can't see your computer from here so only you know
what you have starting with Windows. Best practise is to have as few
programs starting as possible. Here is a site where you can look up the
names of what you see in Startup:

Make sure you are running a current antivirus (version not earlier than
2002) and keeping the definitions updated. Make sure you regularly
remove spyware with Spybot Search & Destroy from
www.safer-networking.org and Ad-aware from
www.lavasoftusa.com. Be sure
to update these programs before running them. These programs are free,
so run them both since they complement each other. It is best to run
antivirus and spyware removal tools in Safe Mode. You may also need to
run CWShredder from
http://www.spywareinfo.com/~merijn/index.html .
Please read the instructions carefully.
Make sure you've applied security patches to your operating system from
Windows Update and that you are running a firewall.
